Overview:

Oliver obtains and enforces patent and design protection for his UK, European, and international – particularly US based – clients. He is also experienced in helping foreign companies navigate the UK and European IP systems.

Highly skilled and experienced in assessing which type, or combination, of IP protection – including copyright and trade secrets – is appropriate, Oliver ensures IP objectives are achieved within budget.

Oliver also provides freedom to operate advice to help clients avoid infringing their competitor’s rights.

Working with a wide range of clients’ from individual entrepreneurs to multinational corporations, Oliver has worked with an extensive range of technologies including quantum computing, nanotechnology, prosthetics, optical sensors and imaging systems (radar), computing and software, Artificial Intelligence (AI), neural networks, electronics, semiconductors and mechanical engineering.

He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA) Computer Technology Committee.

In 2024 he was short listed by ‘Managing IP’ for the ‘Rising Star of the Year’ (Patent & Trademark Attorney Firms) award.

Experience:

  • Advised Ocupeye, a start-up using 3D printing for the manufacture of prosthetic eyes. Working on a limited budget, Oliver developed and implemented an IP strategy for his client. This helped Ocupeye secure funding from investors, as well as prepare the business for the product’s future commercialisation
  • Protecting software and computer hardware for the University of Oxford’s research and development on autonomous vehicles. Oliver has also worked on a number of patent applications for electronics and signal processing devices for the University of Oxford
  • Seconded over a 12-month period, on a part-time basis, to a large UK aerospace manufacturer to draft and prosecute patent applications
  • Advising Aston Vision Sciences on developing and implementing an IP strategy to protect existing and prospective IP rights, as well as identifying opportunities to diversify its IP to maximise the leverage of IP assets
  • Assisting a technology client obtain a large global patent portfolio to protect new 3D printing techniques combining additive manufacturing and machining
