Overview:
Matty is a part-qualified UK and European patent attorney working within the Chemistry and Life Sciences, Energy, and Medical sectors. He has experience working with a variety of clients, ranging from individuals and SMEs to multinational corporations and universities.
Before joining Barker Brettell, Matty spent four enjoyable years studying Chemistry at Brasenose College, University of Oxford. During his degree, Matty undertook a master’s project exploring the catalytic decomposition of ammonia using mixed sodium-alkaline earth metal amides.
Experience:
- Drafting of patent applications and pre-filing invention reviews
- Actively involved in patent prosecution before the UK IPO, EPO, and patent offices in other jurisdictions
- Experience in preparing patentability, freedom-to-operate, and infringement opinions
- Assisted during opposition and appeal proceedings before the EPO
- Supporting patent strategy for a global pharmaceutical company
