Overview:

Technically-excellent and commercially-minded trade mark attorney with a particular interest in the Food & Drink, Finance, Software and Manufacturing sectors.

Adept in a wide range of trade mark matters, including negotiating global settlement agreements, devising tailored trade mark filing strategies, and efficiently resolving complex office actions at the UK Intellectual Property Office. A strong negotiator with a natural ability to identify workable solutions that preserve client’s interests.

I have worked closely with a broad range of companies, including an American manufacturer of optical equipment, an international manufacturer and supplier in the food service market, a global fruit breeding company, a global consumers products and home essentials company, USA-based investment firms, an American newspaper with a worldwide readership, an international manufacturer of flooring and wall cladding solutions, and a British manufacturer of car care products.

Experience:

  • Part of the prosecution team for an international manufacturer of flooring and wall cladding solutions and a British manufacturer of car care products tasked with upholding their extensive trade mark portfolio
  • Part of the enforcement team for an American newspaper with a worldwide readership tasked with preventing third parties from capitalising on their rights in the UK and EU
  • Negotiated in numerous global trade mark disputes, which involved a detailed review of the client’s position in the UK and several overseas territories, establishing where the client was in a weaker or stronger position, devising a detailed proposal which best worked for the client and negotiating with the other side to reach a finalised agreement
  • Recognised by CITMA for being in the top three distinctions in the 2020/2021 cohort for the Professional Trade Mark Law and Practice course

Testimonial:

“I have worked with Craig for a number of years, and he is the latest in a line of first-rate Trade Mark Attorneys at Barker Brettell. Craig is always available, responds quickly to queries, explains complex matters clearly and concisely and gives excellent guidance through the mire of searches, applications and/or infringement matters. He has a thorough knowledge of all trade mark matters and all aspects of our business. In any absence for holiday or other reasons, I have every confidence in him advising colleagues unfamiliar with trade mark issues. I look forward to the benefits of working together for a long time!”

Theresa Johnson, Legal Assistant, Altro Limited

“Craig has been instrumental in helping us expand and protect our brand not only in the UK but all over the EU. He truly understands our brand, our company values, and, without a doubt, has our backs. Craig, as he likes to says, ‘gives things a good think’, which has saved the day more than once. This type of counsel ensures we are responding vs. reacting to situations and not having to regret them later. Craig’s professionalism and kindness is undefeated in my book!”
