Overview:
Avir’s background in Natural Sciences gives him a strong foundation for advising clients across a range of technical sectors, including Computing, AI & Software, Digital Health Tech & Medical Devices and Energy.
Throughout his career, Avir has acted for some of the world’s leading innovators, including several US S&P 500 companies. He has also worked with many leading IP law firms in the US and internationally.
Alongside patent prosecution, Avir has extensive experience in European Patent Office (EPO) Opposition and Appeal proceedings, having handled a large number of cases throughout his career. Accordingly, he has particular strength in conducting Oral Proceedings before the EPO, including in several high-value matters running in parallel with litigation. Avir also has experience acting before the Unified Patent Court (UPC).
Avir has particular interest in computer-implemented inventions, medical devices, personal hygiene products, hygiene product dispensers and oil and gas technologies.
Experience:
- Advises clients from global corporates to SMEs/start-ups to manage their patent portfolios, providing commercially-driven guidance to help them create and maintain their patent rights cost-effectively around the world.
- Regularly attends Oral Proceedings before the EPO, especially for Opposition and Appeal proceedings.
- Advises clients on contentious matters, including before the Unified Patent Court (UPC).
- Developing the patent portfolio for a large medical device launch, including due diligence work and advice relating to the acquisition and ‘harvesting’ of inventions from future product development.
