个人简介:
Melissa is a trainee patent attorney who recently earned her Joint Honours degree in Physics and Chemistry from Durham University. While at Durham, she explored a diverse array of subjects, from astrophysics to quantum mechanics.
Since becoming part of Barker Brettell, Melissa has contributed to the firm’s mechanical and physical sector and has been actively engaged in drafting, filing, and prosecuting patent applications at both the European Patent Office and the UK Intellectual Property Office.

- Assisted with the prosecution of patent applications at the EPO and UKIPO, as well as attend client meetings to gain an understanding of the invention and learn how to offer the necessary help and advice.
- Gaining experience in matters relating to copyright and design for a variety of works.
- Undertook an extended project at Durham University researching novel approaches to health-tracking, namely contact lenses with the in-built ability to measure the user’s blood cortisol levels. Developed a deep understanding of what is required to transform a theoretical invention into a marketable product.
- Undertook a data collection and analysis project in Durham University Physics Department, involving the determination of sunspot temperatures relative to that of the solar surface.
