Biotech team expansion and promotions at Barker Brettell

Posted on

We are delighted to announce a flurry of key additions, progressions and promotions within the Barker Brettell patent team.

There are two new additions to our biotech team:

Jonathan Myers has now joined our Southampton office.  Jonathan is a patent attorney who works in a variety of technical areas, including biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, biomaterials and medical and mechanical devices. Jonathan has been in the patent profession since 2004 and brings experience gained from working as in-house counsel in a biotech company in recent years.

Jon Broughton joined us earlier this year and is based in our London office.  Jon is a lead figure in the European biotech patenting world with a practice concentrated on contentious matters, primarily in the biotechnology and pharmaceuticals fields.  Jon was previously a director of another firm of attorneys, where he had been for 14 years after starting his IP career as an examiner at the UK IPO.

Also, we are pleased to say that Susan Fridd recently qualified as a UK patent attorney, to add to her existing qualification as a European patent attorney.  The majority of Susan’s work is in the areas of biotechnology, biochemistry and medicine.  Susan has many years’ experience of drafting, prosecution and oppositions of patents as well as providing infringement and validity opinions.

Our life sciences and chemistry group continues to go from strength to strength with these additions and progressions.  A total of ten people, with expertise and knowledge between them across the whole range of biotech, pharma and chemistry, now make up the vastly experienced team of attorneys here.

As well as the strengthening of our biotech team, we are pleased to announce that Nick Braddon, Lucy Holloway and Jo Kent have all been promoted to Associates within the firm.

Nick is a patent attorney who is experienced in drafting and prosecuting patent applications for inventions from across the physical sciences and engineering fields. He prides himself on providing clients with clear, commercially focussed advice, delivered on time and on budget.

Lucy advises clients of all sizes, from private individuals and SMEs to universities and overseas attorneys.  Lucy is a member of our hi-tech patent attorney team, and handles inventions ranging from the simple mechanical to the cutting edge of research. She is experienced in handling patent applications around the world, as well as in giving infringement and validity opinions.

Jo’s main area of work is in the drafting and prosecution of UK and European applications.  She assists clients ranging from individuals to small enterprises and large corporations in relation to protecting their inventions.  Her experience as a patent attorney is primarily in the mechanical field.

I’m sure you will join us in welcoming the new faces and congratulating those who have gained promotions and qualifications.
