Biotech team continues to expand

Posted on

We are delighted to announce a flurry of key additions and progressions within the Barker Brettell patent team.

There are two new additions to our biotech team:

Jonathan Myers has now joined our Southampton office.  Jonathan is a patent attorney who works in a variety of technical areas, including biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, biomaterials, medical and mechanical devices. Jonathan has been in the patent profession since 2004 and brings experience gained from working as in-house counsel in a biotech company in recent years.

Jon Broughton joined us earlier this year and is based in our London office.  Jon is a lead figure in the European biotech patenting world with a practice concentrated on contentious matters, primarily in the biotechnology and pharmaceuticals fields.  Jon was previously a director of another firm of attorneys, where he had been for 14 years after starting his IP career as an examiner at the UK IPO.

We  are also pleased to say that Susan Fridd recently qualified as a UK patent attorney, to add to her existing qualification as a European patent attorney.  The majority of Susan’s work is in the areas of biotechnology, biochemistry and medicine.  Susan has many years’ experience of drafting, prosecution and oppositions of patents as well as providing infringement and validity opinions.

Following on from that we are delighted to announce the recent success of Gurpreet Solanki who qualified as a Chartered UK and European Patent Attorney in July this year.  Gurpreet’s expertise covers the full spectrum of patent work, from drafting to prosecution, as well as advising on IP strategy. She specialises in biotech and inhaled pharmaceuticals, working closely alongside universities and pharmaceutical companies.

Our life sciences and chemistry group continues to go from strength to strength with additions and progressions.  A total of ten people, with expertise and knowledge between them across the whole range of biotech, pharma and chemistry, now make up the vastly experienced team of attorneys here.

In addition we have had five new trainees join us this year; Neil Kilpatrick, Nicole Cordy Oliver Pooley, Ana Vesperinas and Katie Howe.

Sarah Lait –Trade Mark Partner and Head of Human Resources said:

“We are delighted to welcome all the new faces to Barker Brettell and wish them every success in their careers.  We also take great pleasure in congratulating those who have gained qualifications this year.”
