Why did you want to become a patent attorney? What attracted you most to the profession? I chose to become a patent attorney because it is one of few professions in which you can work on cutting edge inventions without having to do any scientific research. More importantly, however, I was excited by the prospect of working in a profession that involves me using my knowledge of science, and the legal skills that I would develop, to solve a variety of legal problems. What aspect of the job do you enjoy the most? I enjoy the problem solving aspect of the job the most. What do you hope to achieve over the next 12 months? Over the next 12 months, I hope to become a qualified patent attorney. What drives you? I am driven by my desire to learn new things, by a need to contribute to others and my desire to finish what I have started. What’s the best bit of advice you’ve had? “Always read the instructions before assembling flat pack furniture”. If you could work in another country, which would it be? If I could work in another country, I would work in Italy. I love Italian food, Italian culture and the language. Do you have any magazine subscriptions? I read The Economist because it contains interesting articles on international news, business, science and technology among other topics. How do you relax? I relax (physically and mentally) by watching TV box sets. I also relax (mentally) by playing sports, such as volleyball, and by going to the gym.
