William N Chelton |
Will’s work covers a range of technologies, from simple mechanical devices to state of the art electronics. He particularly enjoys dealing with inventions in cryptography and its related technologies, which is the area of research in which he gained his PhD. Will has a lot of experience of handling patent applications for large international clients in the fields of telecommunications and computer related technologies, but also works with universities, SMEs and individuals.
Will joined the profession in 2007, commencing his training in London at a well known firm which specialises in patents for electronics. In 2009 Will joined Barker Brettell, where he works mainly for universities and SMEs in areas of technology including x-ray machines, computer-related technologies and semiconductor devices. Since joining the profession, Will has completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Intellectual Property from the University of London and is therefore part qualified.
Will’s MEng and PhD degrees are both in Electronic & Electrical Engineering, from the Univeristy of Liverpool and the University of Sheffield respectively. While an undergraduate he interned at FORD’s European design centre and ARM’s system on chip design centre. During his PhD Will supervised practical workshops in digital system architecture, and lectured Digital Communications to MSc students. In 2009 one of Will’s research papers was on the list of Top 25 downloads from the online journal IEEE Transactions on VLSI. He feels that the technical skills he gained before entering the profession regularly prove useful in his day to day practice.
Outside of work, Will likes cycling and walking when the weather is good, and cooking, reading and films when it’s not.
