Priscilla is one of the firm’s most experienced partners. She specialises mainly in mechanical engineering and in computer-related areas, but also has considerable experience in other areas, such as medical devices. She is experienced in the drafting and prosecution of patent applications before the UK Intellectual Property Office (UK-IPO) and abroad, and in dealing with matters before the European Patent Office (EPO). She also advises her clients on copyright and design matters.
Priscilla handles drafting and prosecution work for major clients in the engineering field. She has particular knowledge of pneumatic systems and fittings, as well as automotive systems, including clutches, torque converters, dampers and hydraulic braking systems and components. Other areas of particular interest are golf cleats, water treatment and water metering systems, glazing systems and medical devices such as syringes.
As well as prosecution work Priscilla advises on infringement and validity of UK and European patents, including commissioning and reviewing novelty and infringement searches. Naturally, this has also led to involvement in European oppositions, both in filing and defending them.
Priscilla joined the firm in 1977, qualified as a Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney in 1981, and became senior partner of the firm in 2009. She is currently responsible within the firm for the accounts and IT functions.
Priscilla has an Honours Degree in Mathematics from the University of Warwick. Her mathematics background has given her a logical and analytical approach which is helpful in software and computing. Her knowledge of number theory, together with algebraic topics such as group theory, is often useful in understanding computing and telecommunications processes.
She has a reading knowledge of French, German and Russian and supervises the handling of most of the patent cases received by the firm from abroad which require translation to English.
Priscilla’s spare time is mostly taken up with her family, but she also enjoys reading and gardening, as well as travel and classical music.
