Jo has a range of experience in patent matters in a variety of fields including chemistry and mechanical engineering and has worked extensively on material handling apparatus, monitoring systems, electric tools, control systems, web handling apparatus and vehicle exhaust systems including chemical catalysts for exhausts.
Jo joined Barker Brettell in 1987 after graduating with an Honours Degree in Chemistry from the University of Oxford and gained experience in drafting and prosecution of UK, European and international patent applications in a variety of fields together with the filing and prosecution of Trade Mark applications. She qualified as a Chartered Patent Attorney and Registered Trade Mark Attorney in 1990.
Between 1991 and 2004 Jo took a career break to bring up her family, much of the time being spent in Botswana and Hong Kong.
Jo returned to professional work and to Barker Brettell in 2005 and qualified as a European Patent Attorney in 2006. She continues to be involved primarily in the mechanical field. She has experience of prosecution of patent applications before the UK Intellectual Property Office (UK-IPO) and European Patent Office (EPO) and has also been involved in contentious issues.
Outside of work Jo is kept busy organising her five children and maintaining an interest in photography, music, reading and camping, preferably on the continent.
