Jane practises in all areas of Trade Mark work, including advising upon the availability and registrability of Trade Marks, filing and prosecuting of UK, Community, International, and overseas Trade Mark applications, filing and prosecuting oppositions in the UK and EU, assignments and licensing, Trade Mark infringement and passing off matters.

Jane assists in the management of Trade Mark portfolios for a broad variety of clients ranging from large national and international companies, small to medium sized companies, and individuals and partnerships.

Jane has significant experience in handling matters before the UK Trade Marks Registry, Community Trade Mark Office (OHIM) and the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), including prosecuting applications through to registration, representing clients at Trade Mark hearings before a senior officer of the UK Trade Marks Registry, contentious work such as filing and prosecuting oppositions, submitting evidence and the filing of revocation and invalidity actions. Jane is also experienced in Trade Mark infringement and passing off matters, worldwide assignment programmes, filing and recording seniority claims and advising clients upon clearance of Trade Marks for use and registration.

Jane joined Barker Brettell in November 2001 and is part qualified. Jane is currently studying for the final qualifying examination of the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys.

Jane obtained an Honours Degree in Law from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, before completing the Diploma in Legal Practice at Nottingham Law School, focusing on commercial, international and European law. This course offered academic training in addition to skills including advocacy, drafting, and negotiating.

Outside of work Jane enjoys going to the gym, swimming, dining out, the theatre, and socialising.
