Ben J Lincoln

Ben specialises in mechanical engineering, computer-related work and telecommunications. He has experience of drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the above-mentioned fields of technology before the UK Intellectual Property Office (UK-IPO) and European Patent Office (EPO). He also has experience of prosecuting International patent applications and applications in other foreign countries.

Ben has gained valuable experience in prosecuting the patent applications of several large companies in the fields of plastics engineering, automotive components and telecommunications. He has been closely involved with patent applications relating to industrial networking, computer programs and control systems for manufacturing. Ben has also been involved in advising on issues of infringement, the opposition of European patents and in the assessment of the validity of patents.

Ben joined Barker Brettell in April 2002 and qualified as a European Patent Attorney in September 2006 and as a Chartered Patent Attorney in April 2007. Ben was promoted to an Associate of the firm in April 2009. He has gained much experience from assisting various partners of the firm in different fields of technology as well as being seconded to a patent department in the telecommunications industry. He puts this to good use in advising smaller clients on how to get protection for their products and ideas and on infringement issues.

Ben graduated from the University of Warwick in 2001 with a first class Honours Degree in Physics with Computing. He studied courses on optoelectronics, quantum physics, computer architecture, programming, medical physics, networking and robotics among others. His final year project involved the development of a geophysics probe, electronics and software for the study of underground archaeological features. Ben won the Physics Department's best project prize for his work.

Outside work, Ben enjoys socialising, swimming, participating in motor sport and playing pool and snooker. He has recently taken up playing golf, although he admits that a lot of practice is needed.
